Best way to mind your mind map !

I often been portraited against using mind map by Harsha! which is absolutely not true !!! I started trying (Only trying ;) ) mind map ever since the presentation by Ruchith to Valista team long time ago (I think it was mid 2005).
But initially I didn't have a real reason to use the mind map as I was a software engineer by that time
and often worked in a limited scoped environment compared to what I am doing now.

Now its changed, too many different things to be looked after and monitored and like Himath mentioned once, I start forgetting my quarter 2 tasks so ofter. So I have been using the freemind software for last 10 or so months.

While finding it very useful, the only difficulty I was facing so far was to frequently updating and following up it. I tried various things for it, I tried to get it in iGoogle, looked for ways to get an rss feeds to my Google reader and many other ways. Basically I want to see my map in one of the places I often visit like my Google reader or evolution mail box.

But nothing did work. And using fedora box is even worsening my dream! I have to use freemind software for my maps, which has limited options compared MindManager like software.

Finally I found a better way. I exported my map as a jpeg file and made it my desktop wallpaper. It does help me a lot. When ever you make an update, you just over write the existing image. Thats it. You won't find any better place to look for your maps. Here is a screen shot of it. Just have a look on how it looks not what does it have ;) (It supposed to be personal !!! )

It would have been even better if it is an active desktop where I can update the map from my desktop. But freemind and of course fedora are long way behind to do it.

  1. Hi JK,

I used Freemind for years and it was the best free mind mapping tool I could find. However, I had the same issues you mentioned. I also do a lot of work with Web2.0 software so the browser is a main work place for me now with many of its tabs open. So I started looking for a Web2.0 MindMapping tool and I found a great one called Mindomo which, I use day to day to manage more than 10 roles I play at work.

See my blog post on this: http://itsallaboutsoftware.blogspot.com/2007/11/web20-mind-mapping-with-mindomo.html
